The cast of Survivor’s upcoming 50th season was announced today, and since S50 is the first season of Survivor’s “new era” (the years after Survivor’s all-winners S40, which happened to align with COVID shutdowns in 2020) with all returning players. Since the announcement, there has been discussion about how the cast of S50 has some recency bias towards the most recent seasons–in particular S48, which just finished and has 3 players representing. I decided to dig into the data a bit more, just to explore how prevalent this recency bias is.
